How many toilets does OSHA require on a job site?
OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c)(1) sets the minimum number of toilet facilities for construction jobsites:
| Number of employees | Minimum toilet facilities |
|---|---|
| 20 or fewer | 1 toilet |
| 20 or more | 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers |
| 200 or more | 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers |
Where there is no sanitary sewer, the same section allows chemical toilets, recirculating toilets, combustion toilets or privies (where they will not contaminate water). Portable chemical toilets are the usual choice.
How often are job-site units serviced?
Service frequency is set with the provider when you book. It depends on crew size, shift length and how many units you have. Tell us your headcount and work hours so the quote includes a pumping and restocking schedule that keeps up with your crew.
Where should units go on a job site?
- On firm, level ground the service truck can reach in any weather
- Close to where crews work, so breaks are not spent walking
- Clear of crane swing, excavation, material drops and vehicle routes
- Staked or secured if the site is windy
What else do job sites rent?
Many sites add hand-washing stations, an ADA-accessible unit, or, on longer commercial projects, a restroom trailer for the site office.
